That’s me, Annette, up there, the short one in the back, missing out on a “Cheers” with a lot of my favorite people, because I’m completely absorbed in cooking something (Petit Rosemary Potatoes in a citrus vinaigrette, if memory serves correctly).  Even though you can barely see my face, I think this photo is a perfect way of getting to know me, because my happiest place is surrounded by people I love and wholesome food that I get to prepare for them.

…A glass of wine and a gorgeous Airbnb kitchen on Nantucket don’t hurt either.

By day, I am a Clinical Nutrition Specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital.  By night, I can be found bouncing around in the kitchen, cooking a relatively-fast, relatively-healthy, always-nourishing meal for myself and my husband, most days pausing right before the meal to take a picture (much to his chagrin).  By weekend, I am typically hanging out with my buddies at various farmstands, sitting by a window with a seltzer and some culinary magazines, or editing photos and writing posts for the blog.  I also very much enjoy working out (more on how I got to that point in a future post), doing yoga and ballet, singing, and trying to be a good Catholic. For a more formal resume, read on.

Please note, this blog is not a nutrition blog, it is a culinary blog.  It is not meant to be a site to educate about any particular diet or health outcome and does not reflect the work that I do at my day job.  If you have specific questions regarding your own nutrition and health, please contact me or another dietitian to set up a formal consultation.

Annette Langan, MS, RD, LDN, CSOWM has extensive experience in nutrition counseling, weight management, and the culinary arts.  She graduated summa cum laude from the Boston University dietetics program and completed her dietetic internship at Simmons College.  After briefly working as an inpatient RD, she completed her Masters degree at Rutgers University in Nutritional Biochemistry. Annette returned to Boston and has been working at the MGH Weight Center since 2016, earning a credential as a Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management along the way.  She has also completed the CHEF Culinary Coaching training program.

Annette has only limited “formal” culinary and restaurant experience, which makes her aptly suited to help the home cook progress from total beginner to confident expert, as that is how she developed her own skills. As part of her home-cook development, she ran a blog, Food Science Nerd, for over 6 years.  Food Science Nerd began in 2012 as an online blog committed to teaching simple, healthy recipes alongside scientific information about cooking, baking, biology, and food safety.  As her life got busier, Annette transitioned to sharing her meals and recipes (and some massive failures) on Instagram under the same name. There she attracted many new followers who seemed genuinely curious about how she made these meals on a fresh-out-of-grad-school/newlywed budget while handling a 40+ hour per week job and somewhat picky husband (known on the ‘Gram as “Hubtastic”).  They were even more curious as to how and why she enjoyed cooking at the end of a long day. And thus, Food Science Nerd transformed into A Sprig of Time.
